Here lime mortar is applied to secure the tesserae in place

firstsite, Colchester's contemporary visual arts organisation, is relocating the Roman Berryfield Mosaic into it's new building which is currently under construction. The mosaic will be installed in the floor, just metres from where it was discovered in 1923. The giant artefact which has been housed in Colchester's Castle Museum for over 80 years, has been dismantled by the team from Cliveden Conservation. The team have documented their process in these videos. Further information on the project can be found on firstsite's website www.firstsite.uk.net.

The project is a partnership between firstsite and Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service and is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
