There is a lot of wild conjecture on what the causes of schizophrenia are in the comments. Here is some science-based information on what causes schizophrenia, backed up with actual research: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/schi... Here's a video that explains really well the current science about the genetic causes of schizophrenia: If you like this video, you might also appreciate this video explaining the genetic research around schizophrenia and what causes it. http://tinyurl.com/szscience The science says that schizophrenia is an illness of the brain, that requires medical treatment. It is caused by a combination of genetics and environment working together, similar to other diseases that tend to run in families. Anything that is healthy for the brain, such as managing stress, social support, cognitive therapy, eating well (particularly getting lots of Omega 3 fatty acids) and exercising helps as well, but medical treatment with medications is almost always required to get and stay well.
