On Jan. 22, 2020 Riverside County Animal Services Officer Jose Cisneros responded to a call in Coachella, Calif. about a puppy stuck inside a spare tire. He tried to use oil to lubricate the pup's head and attempted to slip the head through the way it came. However, the pup appeared to have swelling in her neck.

Officer Cisneros transported the pup to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms to consult his colleagues with the Veterinary Services Division. The puppy was sedated to calm her. Shortly after that, a staff member contacted CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire to ask for assistance. Firefighters from Riverside County Fire Station No. 69 in Rancho Mirage quickly responded.

Firefighters Virgil Messer and Tony Bribiesca took turns using a sawzall to safely cut a piece in the wheel to provide enough space for an easier rescue.

Within a few moments, the cut was made and out came the pup, a 3-month-old Australian cattle dog. It is believed that the owners were the reporting party when the call first came to Animal Services. The puppy quickly ate some food after the rescue. She'll rest overnight and be under observation until her return to her rightful owners.
