Kim Young-Nam had taken fourth place in the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games. Two years later, he won the Asian Games in Seoul.
Back to Seoul, this time for the 1988 Olympic Games, Kim Young-Nam was a force to be reckoned; with both the Olympic experience and the home supporters to motivate him.
And he did not disappoint his fellow Korean supporters. Facing Kazak wrestler Daulet Turlykhanov, who represented the USSR; Kim Young-Nam won the contest and become the Seoul 1988 Greco-Roman wrestling welterweight Olympic champion.
