Sanjay Rawal's most recent completed film, Challenging Impossibility, was about the unlikely weightlifting exploits of the spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy and played in over 50 festivals. His current production is a feature-length documentary that focuses on farm labor, the roots of inequity in the agriculture sector, and current movements inspired to inform and enlighten consumers. He and his crew criss-crossed California, Florida, and the Northeast during summer 2011, documenting stories of workers, farmers, and labor advocates. Sanjay also runs a small consulting firm, the Illumine Group, that specializes in strategy for large- and small-scale agriculture projects both in the U.S. and abroad.

This talk is part of Session One: Meet for TEDxFruitvale, which was held on October 14, 2011 at Mills College in Oakland, CA. The conference's theme was Harvesting Change, and it focused on farmworkers, labor and other social justice movements, and fair labor practices in business. http://www.tedxfruitvale.org/

About TEDx, x = independently organized event:

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*
