Hokitika - West Coast Wilderness Trail, a New Zealand Cycle Trail Great Ride

The West Coast Wilderness Trail is part of the New Zealand Cycle Trail network of Great Rides. A grade 2 easy NZ cycle trail, this fabulous cycling adventure guarantees an outstanding landscape ride through dense rainforest, past glacial rivers and lakes and through wetlands, all the way from the snow-capped mountains of the Southern Alps to the ocean.

The West Coast Wilderness Trail can be ridden either in part as a day ride or in its entirety over four days. The trail is centred around Hokitika and runs between Greymouth and Ross. You can ride it either way.

Hokitika has everything you need for your cycle ride with a bike shop, supermarket and other resupply shops and stores. Since the trail is centred around Hokitika it is also a great base if you wish to do day rides in either direction. There are plenty of entry and exit points to the trail within driving distance of Hokitika.
