On July 15, 2011 a coalition of activists came together in Salt Lake City, Utah to deliver the Open Letter petition for open government for the nation's governors during the National Governors Association's meeting. Sunlight hosted a discussion between activists from different local groups, such as Utahns for Ethical Government, Utah Foundation for Open Government, SaveGRAMA.org, and many others.

Over the last few months, Sunlight has observed a disturbing trend of states rolling back transparency of government information, clouding the ability of the public to see what their government and its officials are doing. We held a joint press conference with local activist, members from various groups and representatives of Utah government and attempted to deliver the "Tell your governor to support open government" letter with thousands of signatures to make sure every governor knows that transparency isn't just a campaign promise -- it's fundamental to a healthy democracy.
