One of the hottest products in hockey doesn't come from Canada, isn't produced by a big-time hockey outfitter and doesn't even have a big-name endorser.

The popularity of Skate Fenders has taken off because of the simple yet ingenious design and the product's success protecting hockey players' feet. Think about it: if your foot hurts, you're going to have a tough time skating, and NHL players are paid to stay on the ice.

Skate Fenders are the brainchild of Frank McClelland, a long-time hockey player and retired teacher living in Gaylord. Along with Lake Superior State University and Mayfair Plastics in Gaylord, his vision is now a reality.

For the complete story on the rapid success of Skate Fenders - the product is barely two years-old.
