Check out acclaimed artist Sirron Norris's step-by-step cartooning tutorial videos on KQED Art School and create a portrait of your favorite person or historical figure. Be sure to include your hometown and state and a one sentence description of the person you are paying tribute to in your cartoon portrait! Entries should be inspired in some way by Sirron Norris's KQED video demonstrations of drawing cartoon faces that convey emotion and consider perspective. The winning artwork, selected by Sirron Norris himself, and the winner will be featured in an article on KQED.org and receive a signed artwork from the artist!

Submission of Entries: Submit a link to an image of your drawing that is hosted on Flickr or Instagram via Twitter with the hashtag #KQEDArtContest or send us a link via email to ArtsEd@kqed.org with "Art School Contest" in the subject line.

Deadline: All entries must be received by Monday, March 31, 2014, at 11:59pm.

Eligibility/Guidelines: The KQED Art School Contest is open to any California resident aged 13 and over except KQED employees, their relatives or anyone living in an employee's household. Please render your cartoon image using 2D materials (no videos, please). Place the description of the person and your hometown and state in your email or in the Flickr or Instagram caption. Only one entry per person will be accepted.

Judging and Notification: KQED Art Education staff will select a maximum of ten finalists from among all eligible entries received. These finalists' entries will be judged by Sirron Norris, and he will determine the winner and two runners up in case the winner does not accept the terms and conditions to receive their prize. The criteria at each stage will be originality and creative expression — including the description and whether the portraits convey emotion and consider perspective.

The winner will be notified by Friday, April 18, 2014, by email or Twitter. The selected winner of the KQED Art School contest will have five business days to accept the terms and conditions of their win by signing a release. Failure to do so will mean that the first or second runner up will be notified of their win. After agreeing to the terms and conditions and accepting their win, the KQED Art School winner will receive their prize within 15 business days.

Award: The winner's entry will be featured in an article on KQED.org and the winner will receive a signed artwork by Sirron Norris.
