And for those of you who don't understand why Ninten is carrying an ocarina, or think it's a LoZ reference: In EarthBound Zero (or rather, EarthBound Beginnings), there is an item Ninten can get from someone in Magicant called the Ocarina of Hope. You can select it in your inventory to play back the melodies you obtained thus far. So basically it's an optional Sound Stone. It's not a reference to the Legend of Zelda. Not only was Mother 1 released two years before the very first Zelda game to have Link play the ocarina, Link to the Past (incorrectly translated as a "flute") but, ocarinas are actually real instruments and have existed for thousands of years.
