Malcolm Cliff, who recently retired as Senior Lecturer in Sports Studies at the University of Huddersfield, having stepped down from the Head of Division role the previous year, interviews the author John Carlin about how he came to write the book, why writing it was "hellishly hard work" and why the focus of the book was Rafa Nadal's game against Roger Federer to win his first Wimbledon title in 2008.

John discusses Rafa's extraodinary memory and total recall of every point he played as well as the closeness of the Nadal family, to the extent that at one point his grandparents, their 4 children and grandchildren all lived in the same apartment block in their home town of Manacor in Mallorca.

Having also written White Angels about David Beckham's time at Real Madrid with the other Galaticos, John also comments on the similiarity between Rafa Nadal and David Beckham in that they are both very family orientated, honest with a great deal of integrity and always have time for friends, family, fans and the media. Rafa Nadal is of course a Real Madrid fanatic and John mentions the lengths he will go to watch them play, even when he is on tour.
