Where did the idea of the popular "pre-trib. rapture" come from? It became popularized in 1830:
"1830: During the spring a young woman in Scotland, Margaret Macdonald, declared that she had discovered in the Bible what had never been seen by others: a rapture of "church" members described as a "pre-Antichrist" (or pre-trib) event. Her words: "one taken and the other left" before "THE WICKED [Antichrist] be revealed."
Why is it so popular today in Christianity? The "church fathers" didn't believe in it. Here's a list of influential church "fathers and builders" who DID NOT believe in the "pre-trib. rapture." Augustine, Tertullian, Justin Martyr, Martin Luther, John Wesley, Norman S. MacPherson, Philip Mauro, and Alexander Reese.
