Illuminating Good Health: Eliminating the Cloak of Invisibility (IGHECI) African American Men's Health Symposium, August 18, 2012, at the Norfolk Public Health Center, 830 Southampton Avenue, Norfolk.
A free event that will feature a host of national and regional speakers, health screenings, educational sessions, continental breakfast and lunch, and concluding with a live Jazz concert, the IGHECI African-American Men's Health Symposium is being staged by a coalition of local partner agencies concerned with addressing health disparities impacting men of color in Hampton Roads.
An array of free health screenings will be offered at the IGHECI African-American Men's Health Symposium. These include Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) testing; Digital Rectal Exams (DRE); blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol; oral cancer; body mass index; podiatry; health age; emotional wellness; HIV, etc. Health education workshop topics include Prostate Cancer, HIV/AIDS, cardiovascular health, dental health, Diabetes, nutrition, fitness and body mass index, emotional health, family care giving. The day will close out with a live Jazz concert featuring vocalist Elmo Lawrence, ELJ Production, accompanied by Phase II.
