"During her speech at the "Ukraine in Washington 2013" conference organized by the US - Ukraine Foundation on December 13, Nuland touched upon the matter of Ukranian riots, going as far as to call the Euromaidan "the cornerstone for all free democracies". She admitted speaking to some prominent Ukranian businessmen, who lobby for drastic changes to the current geopolitical regime and state that the people of Ukraine will never trust any president who does not take them into Europe. Apparently they somehow forgot to inquire about the opinion of those who stand united to protect the government from inner turmoil and support both Yanukovich and friendly ties with Russia.

She also stated she had pressed president Yanukovich to continue discussing the EU Association Agreement after the situation in the country has been dealt with, to ensure that Russians can no longer avert this process. "Since Ukraine's independence in 1991 the United States has supported Ukrainians as they built democratic skills and institutions, as they promoted civic participation and good governance," Nuland said. "We've invested over five billion dollars to assist Ukraine's in needs and other goals".

Nuland has already been mixed up with a recent scandal concerning EU and Ukraine politics. A recorded phone conversation obetween Nuland and United States ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt leaked and caused a massive uproar due to the obscene language she used to describe her European colleagues and some of the Ukrainian politicians."
