The Writing on the Wall: Rethinking the International Law of Occupation
The talk draws on a book in progress that seeks to examine the limits of the current international law of occupation. Among other, the discussion will focus on question of whether the idea of "occupation" in international law, which is considered a temporary situation, legitimize the possibility of indefinite control and contemporary forms of colonialism. The speaker will also explore the question of whether the application of human rights in occupied territories (in addition to humanitarian law) expand the protection of people living under occupation, or does it do the opposite by abstracting from the context of occupation?
