After 40 years of silence, Southern Chiles Calbuco Volcano suddenly (and quite unexpectedly) erupted.
Following several days of Pacific plate unrest, multiple 6.0M+ earthquakes around the whole of the West Pacific, and after seeing deep earthquakes in the Asthenosphere below Chile / Peru, now this large unexpected eruption occurs in far South America.
Chile is now under several warnings and advisories, evacuations have been ordered in surrounding areas, and word that other eruptions much further North in Peru are rumored to be on high alert. Thousands now evacuated, as the ongoing eruption carries over into April 23, 2015.
This sudden blast yesterday afternoon (April 22 2015) caught many people off guard, however if people had been paying attention, this activity would have been no surprise, and possibly this volcano could have been being monitored (IF people were to pay attention ahead of time that is to say).
