Water is magic is a great opening statement to show kids some basic physics. For showing a few of water's unique properties know the following: + In solid form water expands. + Water's surface tension means you can "overfill" + You can reduce water temperature with the air around you + oil floats on water Demonstrations/Experimentss: + Cup with paper over it. Turn it upside down and lift (practice first) + Measure the temperature of a bottle of water that is at room temperature. Proceed to wrap the bottle in wet cloth. More movement will cool the water faster. + Put a bottle of water in the freezer. Later remove it carefully. Then flick it and it will freeze quickly. Alternates: pour the water slowly it will freeze at it compresses (landing on a surface. + Have your subjects mark a bottle of water where the surface is. Freeze it, and have them observe the line. + Straw + bottle = fill a cup by blowing into the bottle (attempt to make a seal on the bottle lip). There are many more you can do. Water is a great introductory item to interest kids in science.
