"Why are you so happy?" Savannah asked as she stared down at her bowl of cereal tiredly. She was up all night searching online for the right Homecoming dress and didn't realize that she had school the next day. This is what happened when Michael is constantly on her mind, she lost track of everything else.
"Nothing," Adam said with a smile. He sat down next to her at the counter and poured himself a bowl of milk and cheerios.
"It must be something if you're willing to mess your stomach up before the day even starts." Savannah said as she accidentally spilled some milk onto her jeans. "Ugh," she muttered as she grabbed a napkin to clean herself up.
"Someone's having an off day." Adam said with a laugh.
"Shut up. This is usually you," she glared. "What? Did Sophie say yes to you asking her out to homecoming?" She asked.
"Shit, that's what I forgot to do . . ." Adam dropped his spoon into his bowl. "But no, that's not why I'm happy. After Kyle's little escapade at the game, I talked to some scouts and they are thinking of giving me a full-ride to Arizona state."
"What?" Savannah's mind blanked and she pushed her bowl of cereal away from her. "Since when were you even thinking about going to college outside of California?"
"Since the beginning of Freshman year. Maybe if you paid attention to what I said instead of constantly getting under my skin, you'd know." Adam said as he quickly finished his cereal and stood up.
"Adam, wait. You're joking around right? Does mom and dad know about this?" Savannah asked.
"Yes," Adam said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "If I keep doing what I'm doing, keeping my grades up, and training, I'll earn the full-ride and I'll be out of here by August."
"But that's only 8 months away," Savannah said quietly, more to herself than to Adam.
"Exactly." Adam picked up his bowl and placed it into the sink. "Hurry up and finish your breakfast. I want to stop by school early to see if I could talk to Coach."
"Oh, right. I'll be out there in a minute." Savannah answered nonchalantly, not moving an inch even after hearing the door slam as Adam left.
Savannah walked into chemistry, feeling like a rock was atop of her shoulders. She sat down at her lab table and placed her bag onto the table when she realized it was covered in post-it notes. "Okay, someone had a little too much time on their hands . . ."
Little by little, she read over the little notes, smiling to herself. She reached the last one, pulling it up to read, 'We obviously have great chemistry. You + me = Homecoming?' "Yes!" She squealed loudly, not able to contain her utter excitement when Michael walked into class. She tried to calm herself down, but she was aware that he probably saw her reaction on the way in.
"Hm, I wonder who did this . . ." Michael said with a slight smirk.
