West Bengal's Jana Sanskriti precedes all of their theater performances with this Gujrati-style stick dance called dandiya rass. Jana Sanskriti mixes Indian song/dance/theatre with politics: they follow this dance with a play and then a theatrical "forum," in which members of the audience can come up and take the place of the actors. The whole thing—from song to dance to theater to forum—brings an invigorating arc to the stage and to the community as a whole. And this spirit further manifests in the real-life actions that come out of the forum process. See more at http://www.janasanskriti.org
