Sweet, Sweet Memories, A Divertimento for Four Percussionists (Xylophone, Vibraphone and Marimba - two players), was composed in 2004 (revised in 2011) by Richard Trythall. It was premiered in São Paulo, Brazil, at the "2° Encontro Internacional de Percussão" by the PIAP, Grupo de Percussao do Instituto de Artes da UNESP in September of 2005 under the direction of American percussionist John Boudler. Structurally Sweet, Sweet Memories is a set of variations and a fantasy on a theme by "The Easy Riders" (Gilkyson, Dehr and Miller) -- "Memories Are Made of This" (1955). The intention here was to take a familiar material, easily followed by the listener, and create a completely new structure and story with the same basic ingredients - a tone poem, in this case, for mallet instruments.
