The flamingos at Miami's Hialeah Park racetrack are an institution -- they were featured in the opening to "Miami Vice," and they've been delighting visitors since the 1930s. But lately, this famous flock has had a big problem. For the last five years, the birds haven't laid any eggs.

"I can't honestly tell you why," said Dennis Testa, Hialeah Park's vice president for operations.

But Testa had an idea to help set the mood for the birds, creating plaster eggs and setting them out on the flamingo's island. For whatever reason, it worked, and so far this year, the flamingos have laid at least 80 eggs. Nearly 30 chicks have already hatched. His success has earned Testa some nicknames.

"Just recently, the call me Dr. Love, the Love Doctor," he said. "It's worked again, and we're all tickled pink here at Hialeah."
