I had some Christmas money, so I decided to try Flying Trapeze lessons in New York. The first part of the video shows me executing the trick (straddle whip) perfectly after about an hour of practice, without a catcher. The second shows me doing it with a catcher, and not doing it totally perfectly (my back should have been straighter), but still jumping plenty far for the catch -- in fact, a bit too far. I almost smacked the catcher in the face! Sorry, James...

The second time I tried to do the catch (not pictured), my sore and exhausted body did a "Sorry, your connection has timed out..." to my brain, and my form fell apart on final position. No leap, no catch. I was just done. And I'm gonna be crazy sore tomorrow. But it was so much fun! Highly recommended.

Fast Times in Palestine is a gripping coming-of-age memoir set in the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The narrative focuses not only on violence, terror, and politics but also on the daily rounds of house parties, concerts, barbecues, weddings, jokes, harvests, and romantic drama that happen in between.

"I have read much of the writing on this conflict, and no other book has conveyed such an authentic, penetrating, and enchanting sense of the Palestinian people and their long struggle for rights and security."

-- Prof. Richard Falk, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories
