From the album LA Friday (Live 1975) available from www.StonesArchive.com.
The Rolling Stones performing "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll" at the Los Angeles Forum, California, USA on Sunday 13th July 1975, part of the legendary Tour of the Americas (TOTA). The track is from the album It's Only Rock and Roll (1973). Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and produced by the Glimmer Twins, the song went straight to number one in the US charts when it was released.

If I could stick my pen in my heart
And spill it all over the stage
Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya
Would you think the boy is strange? Ain't he strange?

If I could win ya, if I could sing ya
A love song so divine
Would it be enough for your cheating heart
If I broke down and cried? If I cried?

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do
Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it
I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?

If I could stick a knife in my heart
Suicide right on stage
Would it be enough for your teenage lust
Would it help to ease the pain? Ease your brain?

If I could dig down deep in my heart
Feelings would flood on the page
Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya
Would ya think the boy's insane? He's insane

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
I said I know it's only rock'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do
Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it
I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?

No sampling going on there, kids. In '75 the Stones were still huge and riding high and that was about the pinnacle of a big rock and roll show. Within a few years concerts became MEGA media events and even though you could still find real rock edginess in clubs and smaller venues, it was basically gone completely from major stadium shows.

Wow, Mick is so off on this one, I don't know how the rest of the band was able to follow him...

This one is a bit static ?  I remember livelier versions off the 76 Europe tour ?

God knows how the survived the 70s. I mean compare this performance and one from today. They got so much better at least less drunk and drugged.

i think there's a good reason for that, judging by his onstage demeanor...

Yeah, one these was my first one, most likely this one or the first show since I don't recall The Eagles opening like they did in between! At 16 years old, I was up in the front for a while; but a which tune I was booted back to my real seat?      However I'm sorry to be negative but it was typical of dumb ass film directors back in those days ever worse previously back to the 60's who where so used to filming television shows and so forth that they too often using a camera that is filming the face of someone playing a guitar solo or the like. Yet here with this one, what is this director thinking showing the back of them so much?      That is: It may only be Rock 'n Roll; But I Don't Like It Too Much From Behind! Augy, San Diego
