This is driven by utilising the ability of Vertex Shaders to accept more than one vertex stream. Here, I pass in two mesh's positional data, then lerp between the two positions in the vertex shader using an externally supplied tween value that is kept on a sine wave for this example.

The models used here are from the FaceGen samples at http://www.facegen.com/downloads.htm
