Recently I watched a video of a young asian american, an aspiring teacher named Janet who has relapsed into leukaemia. And without a matching donor - most likely from ethnically chinese people - she will not make it past April.
So I want us to be proactive here in Melbourne, Australia. To 1. encourage people to join the bone marrow donor registry, which is accessible internationally. and 2. to raise money to pay for medical related expenses and lab processes for adding donors into the registry.
For the 2nd point, here's a quick look at the approach: 1. Anyone can make a song request by commenting on this video; this youtube channel; or emailing to firstname.lastname@example.org
2. I learn the song if I don't already know it. I produce a 2-3 minute piano cover.
3. Sponsors - individuals, organisations, groups - pledge to sponsor 1 Australian cent per view for all the videos combined in February. I'm making at least one a day, so that will be the combined views of at least 26 video views. 100 views = each sponsor gives $1, 1000views = $10 and so forth. You set a maximum cap of the amount you're comfortable giving, and do so at the end of the month.
I am doing this to involve people to make that informed decision to become registered on the bone marrow donors system, that will give people a fighting chance.
