Newsnight, 13 Dec 2007: forged evidence was produced in support of a recent 'study' into so-called 'muslim extremism' in British mosques. The report was widely reported on front pages, with terms such as 'hate literature' etc.

The books were mostly obscure religious texts and certainly had nothing to do with terrorism anyway, but Newsnight proved that the Conservative Party-affiliated Policy Exchange think tank had forged receipts to suggest that mosques were distributing this stuff.

There's an entertaining interview (part 3) where Paxman is so much in the right that even he can't mess it up. The director of P.E., Dean Godson puts up an aggressive but doomed defence.

Godson is a neocon who was involved in PNAC. His brother Roy is a leading expert on psychological warfare who was implicated in the Iran-Contra Affair, and whose book Dirty Tricks or Trump Cards includes a discussion of the role of forgery in 'political warfare.'

The Guardian newspaper has a novel way of reporting this fraudulent propaganda scandal: it reports that the newsnight editor is 'defending his editorial judgement' agaisnt accusations from Godson! Looks like the Grauniad has signed up to the phoney War on Terror along with the rest of the usual idiots/villains...
