video: Bram Vanderborght (www.bramvanderborght.eu), candidate European Parliament Open VLD.

More info on the need for a Digital Fast Forward in Europe from candidate EU president Guy Verhofstadt (ALDE - Open VLD).

1) Shift the focus in the European budget from agriculture to digital
In the current budget, Europe will spend 277 billion Euros on the Common Agricultural Policy, but only 1 billion on the roll out of high speed internet. Let's start to spend a smaller percentage on cows and start to invest in high speed broadband, in digital training and education to give youngsters more chances to get a job and an ecosystem of entrepreneurs across Europe.

2)Pooling resources to spur investments
The majority of the top technology and internet companies are in Asia and America. We need to have a digital fast forward with a unified digital market for a joint finance vehicle to provide cheap credits for innovative start-ups. As such my robotic friends like prostheses, exoskeletons and assistant robots can go out of the research labs and can serve our society and economy.

3) The synergy between ethics and technology
With great power comes great responsibility. Technology is a powerful tool, so we need to be careful. Technological innovation for our societal challenges should also address ethical issues like privacy and safety. I defend the "right to be forgotten" and "privacy by default". Legislation should follow innovation so innovative companies can develop legally.
