Governor Christie: They never were going to cut your taxes at all. And they thought they could avoid it by fighting with me about the kind of tax cut we'd give. So I said well let's call their bluff. I'll do exactly what you want me to do. Let's do it. I agreed with the Senate President. Let's do your plan. And all of a sudden, what did they do in the last week of the Legislature? Not only didn't they pass a tax cut, but they passed another income tax increase. So you know what I did. I not only vetoed that income tax increase. I did what's called a conditional veto. It means you can rewrite the bill and send it back to them. So I rewrote their tax increase into their tax cut plan. It's sitting on their desk right now. Their own tax cut plan that they proposed, not mine, is sitting on their desk. And they still won't vote for that. They now disagree with themselves. They were for it before they were against it. We've heard that before, haven't we? From Democrats? I remember ole John Kerry who if he were here would be windsurfing right out there I suspect, and he was for it before he was against it. Well now the Democrats, the Corzine Democrats, are the same way. They were for their own tax cut until I agreed to it. And then once I agreed to it they were against it. So what's that tell you? They were never going to cut your taxes in the first place. They never wanted to cut your taxes, because they wanted to rather spend your money. They think they know how to spend your money better than you do. I believe that the only way this economy grows is to give you more money in your pocket so you can spend it, so you can invest it, so you can save it for your children's education, so you can do with it what you want to do because hey, after all, you earned it. Not me. You earned it. So that's why I'm out here to fight about this.
