Thinkpad R61i LCD problem.MOV

This LCD assembly came with machine A (R61i, 7650-8CU) which was purchased on ebay. The LCD flashes for half a second and went dark when the machine is turned on. There are no indicator lights on the LCD bezel as if there is no power to the laptop. However the fan spins and the hard drive works when powered on. External video works too.

When the same LCD assembly is installed on a known-working machine B (R61i, 7650-8DU - basically the same machine), the video shows what happens - it has super slow response time but the LCD panel itself works (no broken glasses or TFT leakage). Since the same LCD on different machines produced different result, something must be wrong with machine A. And because it shows such slow response on machine B, there is probably something wrong with LCD assembly itself as well.

Now the question is, which component I should test next?
