A Hobie Power Skiff (HPS) running along the beautiful turquoise flats found inside Anclote Key. Hobie has long since stopped manufacturing these boats, I'd have to look back at the title for the specific year, but my recollection is that it was made sometime back in the early 80's. That makes this hull somewhere over 28 years old! I'd say Hobie knew how to build skiffs. This has been an excellent boat for getting across shallow flats, and staying bone dry while crossing larger open bays. I didn't think much of this boat at first. It was something someone was selling on the side of the road. It happened to catch my attention. The seller was very motivated. I thought it might be a fun project, but I didn't foresee the opportunity to learn how seaworthy it is. That shallow draft and light weight have trade offs. There's not much storage and she's not as stable as a wider platform would be. Like every boat, they all have their pros and cons. Fully loaded with three anglers, full tank of gas, and all gear, they float in less than 8" and run in the same; if not less. Chances are I'll eventually put her up for sale. I'm currently working to sell the yacht found on this webpage:
