It was as close to perfection as a winning team can have in a football game for Blackman on Homecoming Friday night. On the 10-year anniversary of their school, the Blaze celebrated Homecoming by defeating the Cane Ridge Ravens 48-0 becoming 4-0 in a nearly flawless performance. The Blaze (4-0) accumulated 365 yards of offense, scoring on almost every possession and committing no turnovers and with no punts. The only possessions when Blackman didnt score were on the final possession of each half, when the Blaze ran out the clock. On defense, Blackman limited the Ravens to yards of 47 offense and only three first downs. Cane Ridge is playing its first year at the varsity level this season. The Blaze got things started on their first possession, with big play after big play to get in the end zone in seven plays. On second-and-goal, Tyrek Collier #5 dropped to pass, then scrambled out of pressure and went into the end zone. DeShawn Smith #7 capped off the first half on the Blazes next-to-last possession of the first half, with a 67-yard scoring run. Jacques Smith #22 had a 3-yard touchdown run, and Itavious Mathers #4
had an 8-yard touchdown run in the first half. The Blaze alternated between Collier and Tyler Strickland at quarterback. Strickland tossed two touchdown passes in the first half to Martin Dietrich #6, one which went 11 yards, and one which went 29 yards. John Fuller scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the second half. Blackman continued its perfection on defense, shutting out the Ravens and only allowing three first downs. The Blaze has not allowed a team to score a touchdown all season. Their only points allowed were on a safety, in the 10-2 win over Smyrna on Sept. 4. No Rutherford County team has accomplished this feat since Riverdale did it in the 2004 season. Blackman plays at LaVergne in a District 7-AAA game Friday night. Dejaun Brown #2 Jess Patton #44
