This song always makes me (a 72-year-old man) cry. I don't know exactly why: it's so many things. It is a love song, a lament for a great painter. I have always been drawn to Van Gogh, the man, his story and his paintings. He is now recognized as arguably the greatest of his time (maybe any time) and his work is valued almost priceless. In his time he was ignored, misunderstood, and he could never quite paint what he wanted to show. He obviously was a depressive mentally and it finally killed him. The saddest tragedy for us is that his suicide stole from us who knows how many wonderful paintings. Starry Night is only one of them. It is an entirely accurate picture of the starry sky from the window of the attic where he lived in the last months of his life. The stars, great orbs of colour are positioned just where they would have been on that date at that minute in the night sky. Oh, Vincent.

Absolutely beautiful song, about an absolutely wonderful artist! The only downside is that Vincent died penniless, and now his paintings sell for many millions. Talentless wankers making huge amounts of money, from a dead man's genius!

I truly think Don McLean is one of the most talented musical and poetic geniuses ever. Makes me want to cry EVERY time I hear it. Beautiful.

How on earth "690" of our fellow human-beings could "dislike" this song is nothing short of a mystery. Vincent, by Don McLean must be one of the greatest ballads of all-time...Hare Krishna
