Seen here is the narrow gauge passenger train which runs from Balaghat to Jabalpur . This is one of the oldest existing Narrow gauge network and will soon be shut down for gauge conversion.
The train is arriving at Jabalpur Junction and it has regular mainline broad gauge services as well even though this section is yet to be electrified .
Jabalpur Junction (Station Code : JBP), is an important railway junction station of Jabalpur City in Madhya Pradesh. It is the headquarters of West Central Railway. The station is sometimes called the Jabalpur main station. Jabalpur serves as the headquarters of the west central railway zone and is one of the busiest railway stations in Madhya Pradesh
But the Narrow gauge services at Jabalpur come under SECR ,South East Central Railways. The most famous narrow gauge train of this section is the Satpura Express which runs from Jabalpur to Balaghat.
Work to convert this Gondia-Nainpur-Jabalpur narrow gauge to broad gauge has been started under Project Unigauge and will provide new opportunities as southern India will be reachable quickly. Gondia Jabalpur was the first of the trains started by British government. It passes through beautiful mountains, valleys and forests on its way.
Jabalpur is connected to Nagpur via Nainpur through these narrow gauge trains ,even though the faster mainline services also exist simultaneously .
