American writer Brenda Flanagan returned to Czech Republic May 10-14, 2011 to participate in the Book World Prague and read from her work at the American Center. Dr. Flanagan teaches creative writing, and African American and Caribbean Literatures at Davidson College in North Carolina. Her collection of short stories, In Praise of Island Women & Other Crimes has been translated into Russian. Her prize-winning novel, You Alone Are Dancing, was published by the University of Michigan Press. In her most recent novel, Allah in the Islands, she writes about an Islamic coup in the Caribbean. Inspired by the Czech Surrealists, she is currently working on a book about Eva Švankmajerová.

Americká autorka Brenda Flanaganová v květnu 2011 znovu navštívila Českou republiku, aby se zúčastnila veletrku Svět knihy a představila své práce na čtení v Americkém centru. Dr. Brenda Flanaganová vyučuje tvůrčí psaní a afroamerickou a karibskou literaturu na Davidson College v Severní Karolíně. Ve své tvorbě se inspiruje českými surrealisty a v současnosti pracuje na knize o Evě Švankmajerové, v níž vidí „mámu" moderního českého surrealismu. Její sbírka povídek Na oslavu žen z ostrovů a jiných zločinů byla přeložena do ruštiny. Na svůj oceněný román Ty sama tančíš navázala v nejnovějším románu Alláh na ostrovech, který líčí islámský puč v Karibiku.
