Midi and PDF notation files of my piano playing on this video are available on my web site at

A great Freddie Hubbard tune, and a requisite for all those who want to improve their improvisation skills. My esteemed colleague http://www.youtube/user/itsTheMystery... has covered this very nicely on EWI and has correctly noted that although the song may be simple does not mean that the improvisation is necessarily easy. With a total of only 3 different chords, the key for me is to keep the solo interesting.

The "A" sections are all in D dorian and the "B" section goes from Eb Major7 to D Major7. The key points to improvisation for me are tension, release, dynamics, repetition and variance. Mix and match all of these into meaningful phrasing, rinse and repeat. ;-)
I have added annotations to try and explain some of the techniques I use.
