This striking home in northeast Riverside Il. is the one time dwelling of feared gangster "Milwaukee" Phil Alderisio. He
got his nickname from living in that Wisconsin city as a teenager and boxing under that name. Phil began his life of crime in the late 20's by being busted for vagrancy for hanging out in front of the Lexington which was at the time Capone's headquarters.

He finally got in the mob in the 30's gained a reputation for brutality and moved up quickly.Working for mob luminaries like San Battaglia and Jake "greasy Thumb" Guzik. During his career he was a jack of all trades; bagman, burglar, extortionist, white slaver and assassin. He led a fearsome crew of hit men that included Tony Spilotro, Chuck Nicoletti and Frank "The German" Schweihs. They were behind the infamous M & M murders of James Miraglia and Billy McCarthy. A case which was used in the film Casino where a guy gets his head squeezed in a vice until his eye popped.

In the late 1960's he became acting boss of the outfit after Sam Battagila was sent to prison. unfortunately for Phil he soon was behind bars himself. Where he died of a heart attack supposedly caused when he heard his long time girl friend was going to marry somebody else. .

This clip is part of the series "The Outfit Now & Then" produced by MindsiMedia and presented on ChiTownView's YouTube station. We show a mixture of crime scenes and homes associated with different Chicago mobsters and tell a little history with each clip.

On our blog we have started posting a history of this organization that for many years had an incredible amount of influence and power over the second largest city in the country. While this may have been true for most of the big cities the level of influence in Chicago and many nearby suburbs was much stronger. In the HBO series Boardwalk Empire they have a storyline that is based the Chicago outfit and that's where we start our series.

In researching our information we have come across some great sources. MyAlCaponeMuseum is a one for Chicago underworld history they provide a wealth of information and have a lot of photos posted.
