The car with three-cylinder two-stroke engine was built from October 1950 to summer 1953 in the VEB automotive vehicle factory Audi Zwickau (formerly Auto Union, factory Audi) and then ran until 1956 under the name EMW 309 in the VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach (AWE). The successor was Wartburg 311.
