Shown is a video of in vitro repolymerized bacterial flagella that have been fluorescently labeled. Some of these flagella are 4 to 5 times longer than the length of those formed in vivo. These helical hollow nanotubes have an outer radius of 20nm and an inner diameter of 2nm. By changing their environmental conditions, e.g. pH and ionic strength, there helical form can be manipulated.
