On March 6th, 2010 the Banks crew tested out the rail's new "Stroker" 427 cu. in., twin-turbo 7.0L Duramax engine at the NHRDA Nationals in Wittmann, Arizona. The numbers for this trip out were 7.670 @173.54. We were a little faster back in April 2009 when we ran 7.17 @ 181.08. We've also run a best trap speed of 190MPH with the car on a separate test session. All those runs were with our twin-turbo'd Duramax, and now we're getting set to hit the track with a supercharged configuration. Stay tuned for that! I love the way this thing responds to the throttle.  It revs up like a gasoline engine and doesn't put out any transient smoke like other high performance diesels.  My guess is that Banks is using a LOT of nitrous oxide injected into the intake manifold to go with the fuel when they first hit the throttle, then when the turbos spool up, the nitrous can be tapered off.  Very sophisticated, whatever they're doing.

Man the tech that went into this thing.... I bet there's $100k plus thousands of R&D hours into it. This has got to be some custom mix fuel too. There's no way pump ulsd burns that quickly at that RPM.

7000 RPM. (And in case you were also wondering, we launch at 4000-4300 depending on the track and shift at 6500.)
