YouTube is facing a scandal of child exploitation on its service, especially regarding disturbingly inappropriate comments left on videos containing minors.
Because YouTube is a broken mess, they can't just deal with the problem by taking out the trash. Instead, they've yet again found a way to punish everybody and turn a YouTube problem into an everybody problem.
YouTube channels are getting demonetized as a result of a YouTube kneejerk, even if the videos are fine AND the comment section moderated. And no, we don't know how badly this will get abused once commenters realize how much power this gives them.
YouTube's comment section has always been a mess, but it's a mess YOUTUBE should be responsible for. Moderation tools on the uploader end are useless.
You can literally do everything right and YouTube will still punish you. Amazing.
