As sirens rang around the campus at exactly 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, students, administrators, staff, and faculty members of the Ateneo de Manila University were in “duck, cover, and hold” position. The Ateneo campuses in Quezon City (Loyola Heights), Rockwell and Salcedo (both in Makati City) participated in the Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) metro wide shake drill.

Ateneo students and employees simulate emergency evacuation. The University Emergency Management team was activated during the entire emergency response process.

The MMDA shake drill aims to increase the metro’s chances of better recovery and implementation of contingencies in the event of earthquakes.
