Nagoya Castle is one of the three largest castles in Japan along with Osaka Castle and Kumamoto Castle. Completed in 1612, Nagoya Castle was commissioned by the warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu a a symbol of his new found power as the shogun and to cement his hol on west and central Japan. Nagoya Castle was largely destroyed in US air raids in 1945 but rebuilt in 1959 as a modern ferro-concrete reproduction complete with elevator. http://www.japanvisitor.com/japan-cit...
