The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Irish writer and poet, Oscar Wilde was first published in a magazine in 1890 but this later version was amended by Wilde himself, including entirely new chapters, and was published in 1891. It was his only published full novel.
The gothic horror tale tells the story of the titular Dorian Gray who becomes the subject of a painting by Basil Hallward, as well as becoming the subject of his infatuations. In a Faustian twist Dorian wishes that the painting ages but not him but as the years (and debauched behaviour) add up the toll on Dorian start to show to all.
