This is the wild rabbit that hangs around my place in Agua Dulce California.
A Western Desert Cottontail Rabbit, "Black Tip" was in the back yard when I brought my two dogs home from a walk in Agua Dulce's Vasquez Rocks Park. This would be when I had "Revenant" and "Sasha" (Revenant died on December 2, 2011, "Trey" is his replacement as Sasha's mate.); both dogs ran outside when I released their leashes in the trailer, both dogs happened to be Wolf/White German Shepherd Hybrids.
Knowing they were after something I ran out after them; and saw both chasing this rabbit around the back yard, and the rabbit was too terrified to remember how it had gotten into the back yard. Both dogs obeyed my command, "Let it alone!" Both were well trained in spite of their backgrounds; and the rabbit escaped the same way it had entered the back yard. Ever since then "Black Tip" has been hanging around where I live on this ranch; so I leave a water bowl outside for it.
Why "Black Tip"? Look at the Fur, and the outer tips of the ears.
"Black Tip" is now my wild outdoor friend; and later on I discovered that Sasha was spending part of her nighttime back yard sessions hanging around with the rabbit in the back yard. (Remember what she is.) Revenant was good with that, and stayed inside those times. :-)
