In this clip, Dr. Eoin O'Connell discusses the theory of beauty found in the writings of the Neoplatonic philosopher, Plotinus. Plotinus argues that true beauty is an object of reason rather than of the senses; therefore, we must abstract away from the physical world if we are to know that which is truly beautiful. This class is part of the course, The Philosophy of Art, which is cross-listed in the Department of Fine Arts and the Department of Philosophy, in Manhattan College, New York.
