At noon on Wednesday September 8th 2016 Black Lives Matter protesters gathered at 21 Division of PRP (Peel Regional Police) at 10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. A civil lawsuit was being served and a protest had been organised by members of the family of Jermaine Carby, fatally shot by police on September 24th 2014 during a traffic stop in Brampton. The group marched inside a government building adjacent to a police station and made their way inside the reception area of the police station chanting slogans, brandishing signs and uttering profanities to police officers at the reception desk. Speeches were given and intimidating behavior was observed but PRP officers continued their duty serving citizens that happened to be there at the same time. The protest was in relation to the SIU's (Special Investigation Unit) decision not to charge the officers involved in the 2014 incident. The SIU is an organization in charge of investigating serious or fatal incidents involving other local police services.
