Stanisława Nowicka - Skrwawione serce (My Bleeding Heart) (Fanny Gordon /W.Jastrzębiec) Parlophon, 1932

NOTE: Stanisława NOWICKA was a real grande diseuse of Polish prewar song. No doubt, she can be compared with such milestone singers in the European chanson history of 1920/30s, as Damia, Berthe Silva or Marlene Dietrich. Her soprano/mezzosoprano voice - although very emotional, sometimes reaching the risky registers of the ultramelodramatic genre - in the end remains under Nowicka's artistical control and - leads her towards really moving and profound interpretations of the fate of abandoned, almost suicidal women.

"My bleeding heart
trampled on in a crowd
still waits and believes
- in spite of illtreatment it goes through
- with all the love, it's not supposed to have
that the embrace will rejoin us soon..."
