地元の人たちは「うぉんたな」の愛称で呼ぶ400年近い歴史と伝統の「魚の棚商店街」明石鯛、明石だこ、穴子、イカナゴ、カレイと新鮮な海の幸がいっぱい。塩干物、練り製品など100軒余の店がずらり。午網(ひるあみ)は有名で、観光客も多い
大漁旗が立ち並ぶ師走からお正月にかけては大変なにぎわいです。

Akashi has prospered as a city of seafood and marine products.  Thanks to rapid tides and rich food sources for marine life, Akashi-dai (sea-bream), Akashi-dako (octopus) and conger eels in particular flourish.
Fish from Akashi are popular throughout the country for their freshness, texture and taste.  The 400-year-old traditional shopping street, Uo-no-tana, is filled with shops that sell fresh catches of the day from the strait, along with various other marine products.

明石市作为「饮食城市」自古以来就很繁盛。特别是在濑户内海捕获的新鲜的明石鲷鱼和明石章鱼等海鲜品,在日本国内非常有名。相传大约有400年历史的「鱼棚商店街」里,以明石特有「明石烧」的店铺为首,排列着许多刚捕获的海鲜的卖鱼店。
明石特产「明石烧」的特点是使用很多的鸡蛋和汤料,刚做好的「明石烧」外皮松软里面的章鱼很有咬头,吃时先放在汤料里浸一下再吃。作为百吃不厌有明石特色的绝品料理,不仅当地人,并且有很多的观光客为了追求其美味而来访明石。当地人把「明石烧」也叫「鸡蛋烧」,被认为是大阪「章鱼烧」的始祖。
