Canada South Blues Society: Presents: Sugar Ray Norcia Born Raymond Alan Norcia On June 6,1954 In Stonington, Connecticut

Sugar Ray Started To Play Harmonica - Based Blues While Attending Stonington High School. He Relocated To Providence, Rhode Island, Formed The Bluetones, And They Quickly Became The Backing Act For Big Walter Horton, Otis Rush, Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner And Roosevelt Sykes. The Bluetones Toured Extensively And Have Released Seven Albums Since 1980. In 1991. Norcia Joined Roomful Of Blues As Their Lead Vocalist, Releasing Three Albums. Roomful's Style, R & B - Influenced To Showcase His Superlative Harmonica Skills. It Wasn't Until Tarlac Record's Superharps Collaboration, Putting, Ray In The Heady Company Of Charlie Musselwhite, Billy Branch, And James Cotton, That Ray's Skills On The Lickin' Stick Began To Receive World - Wide Recognition. The Superharps Record Garnered Ray His First Grammy Award Nomination, John Taylor Of Blues Freepress London, England, Say's Ray, " As A Vocalist, Sugar Ray Has A Unique And Instantly Identifiable Style, More Croon Than Growl, Smooth As Silk Yet Expressive. His Harmonica Work Is The Equal Of Any In The World."Ray Has Recorded With Little Anthony, Otis Grand, The Jordanaires And More Recently, Contributed His Harmonica Playing On Records By Pinetop Perkins. Ray Has Opened For, Or Shared The Stage With, Hubert Sumlin, Bob Marley And The Wailers, The Animals, Junior Wells, And Countless Other Legends.
