Very popular Ukrainian romantic folk song played on 120-year old mandolin-banjo or how they called it nowadays - banjola. This 5-string instrument with a body of a mandolin or lute was made in New York by August Pollmann.
The song goes like this:
The moon’s in the sky with glistering starlets
Serenely boat’s being washed by sea wave
The girl in the boat is beautifully singing
The Cossack’s heart stopping – he’s deeply in love
The song is so sweet, and song is so lovely
It’s all ‘bout loving, all ‘bout love:
“We so loved each other and then we were parted
But we are together forever now”
Oy, eyes, oh, these eyes, these beautiful eyes
Dark as dark night and bright as bright day
Because of these eyes, I know how to cry now
But how did they know how to drive us insane?
